One thing for sure, one way or another, be it in prison or legal fees, Kwame Kilpatrick is going to continue costing taxpayers money for a long time.
The latest: His court-appointed attorney Harold Gurewitz is asking the U.S. Court of Appeals to approve an expenditure of $24,000 so he can hire an associate to assist in his appeal, WXYZ's Heather Catallo reports.
Gurewitz told the court that he needs help reviewing 11,931 pages of trial transcripts. He writes that associate attorney, Jason Eggert, would be paid $80 an hour for up to 300 hours, WXYZ reported.
Recently, U.S. District Judge Nancy G. Edmunds disclosed that taxpayers paid $813,806 for court appointed attorneys for Kilpatric's corruption trial. He was sentenced in October to 28 years in prison.
Besides legal cost, Kilpatrick is sure to cost taxpayers money.
