Just a month after opening, Detroit's only Spanish-style tapas bistro earns influential praise from a doyenne of Detroit dining.

A Detroit News review by Molly Abraham praises La Feria as "a true tapas bar with offerings much as you would find in Seville or Madrid. . . . Service couldn’t be friendlier or more welcoming."
At the Cass Avenue newcomer, she savored a "delicious" soup called cocido -- "thick with garbanzo beans, shredded pork and chicken, pork belly and a flourish of shredded cabbage." The recipe comes from chef Pilar Baron-Hidalgo's mom, notes Abraham, whose review mentions other menu items.
The 35-seat restaurant "seems to be what the Midtown neighborhood needed," the veteran restaurant writer says, "fitting into that thriving part of town seamlessly, another bright thread in the tapestry."
