Christopher Rosnik has licked his unemployment situation.

After being laid off as an Oak Park cop, he decided to go into business, the Oakland Press reports.

So on Aug. 1, he  opened Dairy Delights, a soft-serve ice cream shop on 9 Mile Road in Oak Park, partnering with a liquor store owner Nash Kassab in Oak Park who he befriended while on the beat.

“While patrolling the streets, I recognized that the people of Oak Park were hard-working and handling the current economic strife as best they could,” Rosnik, an eight year veteran of the force told the Oakland Press. “I also saw opportunity, since there were no soft-serve ice cream parlors in the area. I remember working at my local ice cream shop as a teenager and loved how a little thing like ice cream could lift the spirits of the community.”

The paper reported that he has 10 Oak Park High School students working in the shop.
