Anyone who has taken prescription drugs over a long period of time has seen prices skyrocket.
Democrats in the state House of Representatives, tired to of waiting for Congress to act, want to try and crack down on pharmaceutical companies that price gouge with prescription drugs in the state.
They've proposed creating a Prescription Drug Consumer Protection Board that would review increases in prescription drug prices and, if they find the price hikes unjustified, ask the Michigan Attorney General to investigate the matter, reports Kathleen Gray of the Detroit Free Press.
The board wouldn't be able to force drug companies to lower their prices , and could only request that the Attorney General's Office investigate.
“Prescription drug prices are out of control,” House Minority Leader Sam Singh, D-East Lansing, said, according to the Freep. “We want to stop price-gouging once and for all.”
