Camari Smith, an 8-year-old girl, was critically injured Monday afternoon after being hit by a car on Detroit's west side, Fox 2 reports.
Camari was having ice cream from a nearby ice cream truck with a friend when a driver failed to stop at the ice cream truck's stop sign, which was extended with blinking red lights.
Police say the impact sent the girl airborne and knocked her out of her shoes. She is said to have not have any vital signs when she was first conveyed to the hospital. However, medical officials are said to have found a pulse and the girl has been transported to Children's Hospital.
Camari was the latest in a series of hit-and-run accidents in Detroit both before and after the beating of Steve Utash, the suburban tree trimmer who was attacked by a mob on Morang Drive after a 10-year-old boy walked into his truck.
