Repost from Tuesday. The episode adapted from the Oxford High School shooting aftermath airs at 8 p.m. Thursday on NBC.

"Ripped from the headlines," as they say.

It took less than five months for last fall's deadly Oxford High shootings to serve as the basis of a "Law & Order" episode (preview video below).

In an episode of the NBC drama airing Thursday night, a teen student with violent drawings in his locker shoots a New York City private school headmaster. His father also is charged. Sounds mighty familiar, right?

The Detroit Free Press describes the parallels shown in a half-minute promo:

In one scene, assistant district attorney Nathan Price (Hugh Dancy) says, "His father provided the murder weapon."

Another clip shows district attorney Jack McCoy (played by veteran "L&O" star Sam Waterston) saying, "Knowing his son had emotional issues, he gave his son a weapon?"

An offscreen voice, apparently Waterston's, says, "I want to charge his father for murder." That's followed by Dancy's character saying, "We need to send a message."

Jennifer and James Crumbley both have been charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the Nov. 30, 2021, shooting at Oxford High School ... that left four students dead and six other students and one teacher injured. Prosecutors say that four days before the shooting, the couple bought their son, 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley, the gun he is charged with using.
