The thievery is done right out in the open and is captured on the store video.
Yet, the thief keeps stealing bags full of groceries week after week from a Shell gas station on Warren in Detroit and getting away with it, according to a report by Aaron Baskerville of WXYZ. He's even held up a customer at gunpoint.
The station reports that the man has stolen dozens and dozens of times in the past year.
It's pure and simple, lawlesslness, and shows the perils of doing business in Detroit's neighborhoods, where often there's a dearth of businesses. It's also puzzling why police have not caught the man.
WXYZ reports that the man struck twice on Tuesday. A video shows the man coming in with a big plastic bag and filling it up with food.
Owner Steve Hakim tells the station that he's called police, but so far the man just keeps coming back.
He said he's instructed his employees to stay behind the register and not confront the man.
"We don't want to lose a worker over $50-$100. We just want this guy caught," he tells WXYZ.
The gas station suspects the man may be reselling the merchandise to a nearby gas station. -- Allan Lengel
