A lawyer for the ski resort, Treetops Resort in Gaylord, calls it a "conspiracy of silence."

He's talking about trying to find out all of the members of the University of Michigan fraternity who were responsible for causing more than $400,000 in damage to the place during a January weekend last year, Robert Allen of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Allen writes:

One year after members of a University of Michigan fraternity turned a wing of a northern Michigan ski resort into a disaster zone,  some say a  conspiracy of silence continues to hinder justice. A lawsuit has made little progress in holding anyone responsible for the hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage, and an attorney representing Treetops Resort in Gaylord said he's still trying to gather information.

"What we find is people who are saying, 'We weren't involved,' but we say, 'Who is involved?' And they don't answer," Plymouth-based attorney Paul Dillon said. "It makes it very difficult."

Dozens of members of the since-disbanded U-M chapter of  Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity were believed to be at the party on the weekend of Jan. 17-18, but only four people have been criminally prosecuted, all on misdemeanor charges.

The Freep reports that the lawsuit was filed to get compensation for the insurance company and revenue the resort lost as result of the vandalism.
