Should taxpayers foot the bill for for a jury consultant for a defendant in Kwame Kilpatrick public corruption trial in September?
The answer is absolutely "yes" if you ask attorney John Minock, who made the request Thursday in federal court on behalf of his client, former Detroit water Boss Victor Mercado, one of four defendants in the Kilpatrick public corruption trial, according to Robert Snell of the Detroit News.
The cost for the consultant is $2,400.
Minock said the court already has approved spending $2,400 on a jury consultant for another defendant, the News reported.
Taxpayers are already footing the bill for lawyers for Kilpatrick, his father, Bernard Kilpatrick, and Mercado.
Mercado, who earned $230,000 as head of the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, is indigent, his lawyer wrote Thursday, according to the News.
