Ok, let's assume that working as a security cop in a library isn't the most exciting job.

But Tim Tompkin could have found a better way to get some thrills. Maybe even just read a good spy thriller. Or what's wrong with good Elmore Leonard novel?

Unfortunately, Tompkin, the assistant director of security for the Detroit Public Library system, appeared to need more than that.

The Detroit News reports that Detroit police are investigating allegations that Tomkin fitted his white SUV with dashboard lights and stopped a 2005 Lexus going 80 mph on the Lodge Freeway near Wyoming on Oct. 6.

Ended up the driver was off-duty Detroit Police Officer Viera Brownlee, the News reports.

The officer started questioning Tompkin and he became flustered and nervous and let her go.

He's been suspended.
