Now that Hollywood studio have left Michigan as the tax credits dried up, another group of filmmakers have descended on Detroit.
These are documentary makers. Their focus ranges from the way nature has re-asserted itself in the city to long-abandoned auto factories to the Detroit Fire Department. As the New York Times notes, the looks are not always loving, and the films raise question about voyeurism and wallowing in so-called "ruin porn." --BM
