The San Francisco Giants are loose and quirky and crazy-loud and jump around like little kids on a sugar buzz, writes Jeff Siedel in the Free Press.
The Tigers' opponent in the World Series, which opens in San Francisco Wednesday, reflect the personality of the City by the Bay.
Rightfielder Hunter Pence, for instance, rides a custom-made scooter to the park before every game. It looks like a skateboard on steroids, complete with handlebars and a light, and he parks it in the clubhouse during games.
Pablo Sandoval is the third baseman. He has an orange Mohawk.
Before Game 7 -- as Giants fans were hyperventilating with anxiety -- Sandoval was acting all goofy, according to Seidel. He was stretching in the outfield when one of the Giants pitchers hit a line drive right at him -- and, yes, it's extremely weird to see pitchers take batting practice.
Sandoval dived out of the way and rolled in the grass as if he were playing a childhood war game, trying to avoid imaginary bullets, and he came up screaming at the pitcher, acting as if he were upset.
A moment later, Sandoval walked behind the batting cage and held his bat like a golf club and started hitting a baseball as if he were on a putting green.
