Let's face it, no one figured it would be a sure thing for the Detroit Lions.
Particularly after last week's lackluster performance against Green Bay, only the hardcore optimists thought the Lions had much of chance of winning against Dallas.
Well, at the start it looked as if the Lions had a pretty good shot at winning the franchise's first playoff game since 1992. The score was 14-0. The Lions looked great. The Cowboys looked like the Lions did last week.
But the Lions somehow thought they could coast on their lead and only added six more points.
Dallas just kept driving and driving, and in the end, Dallas was victorious, beating the Lions 24-20.
We hoped that Lions quarterback Matt Stafford could pull off his magic in the last drive in the 4th quarter as time ticked away, much like he had done during the season again and again.
But luck ran out.
In the end, the Lions lost like many of us thought they would.
But they lost by a lot less. And they put up a respectable fight.
A headline on the Dallas Morning News website read:
"5 thoughts: Cowboys avoid playoff disaster; is this finally Romo's year?"
