A 46-year-old former Novi resident is in custody a long way from where he allegedly killed his wife and two children nearly five years ago, Eric D. Lawrence reports in the Freep.

Lakshminivasa Rao Nerusu, 46, was arrested on Wednesday by . . . police near Hyderabad in southern India, according to a Novi Police news release. . . . The U.S. Justice and State departments are pursuing extradition.

Novi's police chief, David Molloy, says in the handout:

"We look forward to Mr. Nerusu returning to Michigan to face the consequences of these horrific crimes. . . . A great deal of deliberation and premeditation went into these acts."

Police say Nerusu, a jobless computer programmer at the time, killed his 37-year-old wife, 14-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son on Oct. 13, 2008. Detectives haven't disclosed a possible motive, Lawrence writes.

The suspect and his wife were originally from India, and he has family there, Molloy is quoted as saying.
