Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel married the former Tracie Damschroder in Key West, Fla., Tuesday.
Hackel, 52, a Democrat and the former county sheriff, and Damschroder, 33, a buyer for Magna International, have known each other for years after meeting at Macomb Community College, Mitch Hotts reports in the Macomb Daily.
They initially considered holding a reception that would have been open to the public at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights, but then decided to keep the event low key, with just the two of them. If the Freedom Hill plan had proceeded, it was possible up to 5,000 people might have attended, Hackel said.
On Wednesday, Hackel told Hotts he and his new bride plan to have a small reception for family and friends this weekend at the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores.
