Note to TV networks: Politics in Macomb County is a reality show waiting to be developed. Really.

The latest is the battle to dethrone contentious Republican County Clerk  Karen Spranger, who was elected to her post last year. She is also the register of deeds.

Macomb officials filed a motion Tuesday in Macomb County Circuit Court asking a judge to rule that she isn't qualified to serve because she lied that she lived in the county at the time of election, reports Norb Franz of The Macomb Daily.

Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel and the county’s chief attorney, Corporation Counsel John Schapka, told reporters that the administration has been receiving information and documents for months regarding whether or not she lived at 7520 Hudson Avenue in Warren. The home lacked utilities, including water, and had been cited for nuisances.

“If it’s determined she did not live there, she is not entitled to hold this office,” Hackel said. “The only place that’s going to be answered, that’s in the courts."

The county's motion was part of a request with the court to file a counter-claim against Spranger, who is suing the county to establish who has authority over her departments.
