Coach was busted at the motel.
A 43-year-old Macomb County high school girls' basketball coach was arrested Saturday for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old female student, Jessica Dupnack of Fox 2 reports.
Police say the arrest happened Saturday around 4 p.m. when the coach was seen at the Red Roof Inn at 11 Mile and Dequindre in Warren with the student. The Macomb Daily identified the coach as Latwan Turner, 43, of Lenox Township. The girl was reportedly a member of the basketball team.
The man was a coach at New Haven High School in Macomb County and is expected to be officially charged on Monday.
The Macomb Daily reported that police spotted the two having sex in a car outside the hotel.
The school issued a letter to the New Haven community:
Dear New Haven Families and Friends,
New Haven Community Schools is committed to the safety and well-being of our students and staff. That is why it saddens me that I am writing this letter to you today but it is important that you have accurate information.
On Saturday evening, I was notified by the Warren Police Department that the NHHS girls varsity basketball coach was arrested for sexual assault of a 17 year old NHHS student. I was told that he was taken into custody on Saturday afternoon. He has been placed on leave from the coaching assignment until further notice. New Haven administration will fully cooperate with the Warren Police Department as they conduct their investigation.
