Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel has big plans for the Macomb shoreline.

According to the Detroit News,  Hackel sees along the Clinton River and Lake St. Clair a waterfront entertainment district that could include  hotels, restaurants, a casino and a pier. He also envisions people swimming, kayaking and boating.

Some of those activities take place today, but Hackel wants Macomb to shed its image as Rust Belt outpost and shift its economy, as the News puts it,  from shift from one type of blue to another, from blue-collar to the deep blue waters.

"We've taken it for granted for so long," Hackel said. "Many cities and towns would love to have what we have."
