Inspired by the progress she saw in Detroit during a recent visit, Madonna said she's contributing financially to the construction of youth boxing gym in Detroit and buying iPads and other supplies for students at a city charter school, WDIV reports.
Madonna ssued a press release Monday saying the contributions to three organizations represented "the first phase of a long-term commitment" to her hometown, WDIV reported.
WDIV reports that the donations will go toward the Downtown Youth Boxing Gym; supplies for the Detroit Achievement Academy and the the Empowerment Plan, which employs homeless women to sew garments distributed to the homeless.
Madonna,who grew up in Bay City and Rochester Hills, attended the University of Michigan for a while before heading to New York. Her daughter plans to attend U of M this fall
