It's a season to be charitable.

At least 2,000 people showed up Saturday for the annual "Holiday of Hope" on Detroit's east side at the Second Ebenezer Church to get frozen turkeys and other items including coats for the holiday, Mike Woolfolk of WXYZ reports.

WXYZ reports that Lansing native Magic Johnson and the Magic Johnson Foundation teamed up with the church for the event.

“We don’t want anybody to not have a good Thanksgiving," Johnson tells WXYZ. "We don’t want anybody in Detroit to not have coats and clothing, proper clothing, especially for the winter.”
