As the first round of vaccines roll out, states are still unclear exactly how vaccines will be distributed beyond the essential workers.
The Detroit News reports:
Mass distribution of vaccineworkplaces, especially larger employers like the Detroit automakers, are sure to play a critical informational and coordination role in helping the state meet its goal of inoculating at least 70 percent of adults before the end of 2021 against the virus that has killed more than 11,200 Michiganians to date.
"Companies like DTE and Ford and General Motors and Fiat Chrysler, they have a lot of organizational capacity, and so they have an ability to roll something like this out," said Scott Page, a professor at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business. "I think you're going to see some of the leading companies in the area actually promoting vaccination centers at their locations, using their facilities, using their staff, to the extent that they can."
The News reports that Ford Motor Co. has purchased a dozen ultra-cold freezers to store the Pfizer vaccine at its facilities, though details have yet to be determined. And General Motors Co. is in contact with the government agencies and will coordinate distribution as needed.
