Old Tiger Stadium site
Some of Detroit's noted sites -- the Hudson's building, old Tiger Stadium and the State Fair grounds -- are expected to get a new lease on life in 2016.
Dan Gilbert has plans to develop the Hudson's site with housing and office space, John Gallagher writes in the Free Press.
At Michigan and Trumbull, the site of the old Tiger Stadium, Gallagher says:
That plan calls for the nonprofit Detroit Police Athletic League to build its new headquarters along one L-shaped portion of the site, while developer Eric Larson of Larson Realty has won the right to develop another portion as "the Corner," a mixed residential and retail project. The historic playing field in the middle will be maintained for youth sports, although controversy continues over PAL's suggestion that natural grass be replaced with artificial turf.
At 8 Mile and Woodward, at the old State Fair grounds, Gallagher writes of the anticipated plans:
There will be a senior living project, with independent living, assisted living and memory care units. The plan also calls for some sort of educational use — perhaps a charter school or academy. There will be lots of retail, a transit stop of some kind, lots of walkable green space and perhaps a movie theater. Historic structures on the site will be preserved and restructured.
