As suspected from the very beginning, Fraser police now say they believe that a 68-year-old man who went up in flames in his pickup truck Sunday afternoon in the Meijer's parking lot committed suicide, The Macomb Daily reports.

Fraser Detective Lt. Dan Kolke said Tuesday evidence found inside the burned-out Chevy Silverado includes the bottom of a gasoline can in the truck’s cab, Mitch Hotts reports. The incident happened at 15 Mile and Utica roads.

“We dug out a partial gas can bottom that was on the passenger floor and there are signs that gas had been poured on the seat,” Kolke said the pape. “There was a very strong smell of gasoline on the seat.”

“We pretty much know what happened to this gentleman,” Kolke said. “But we probably will never know why.”

Kolke said a sample of the seat was sent to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab for analysis, but Fraser detectives believe the case will be ruled a suicide.
