Matt Lauer of NBC's Today Show came to Detroit and interviewed GM's Mary Barra on a live feed Thursday, peppering her with questions about the scandal that has rocked America's biggest automaker.
Asked if there will be more recalls, Barra said:
“We’re going to continue to look at the data that we get and we’re going to take the action that we need. That's our commitment to customers. If we find an issue, we’re going to deal with it."
She said that she doesn't expect more firings beyond the 15 people who were axed.
She was asked if she would be surprised if someone gets indicted because of the faulty ignition switches.
“I think that’s for the courts to decide. I can tell you, I’ve taken action in the people that I don’t think should be a part of the company, aren’t here anymore. Clearly, there've been mistakes made and we’re dealing with the situation."
She denies that there was any coverup.
"I don’t think there was really a cover up. I think what we had, and it was covered in the report, there were silos of information, so people had bits and pieces and didn’t come forward with the information or didn’t act with a sense of urgency, and it simply was unacceptable."
