Mayor Dave Bing on Friday talked about why it's important to vote in Tuesday's election, particularly with the emergency manager in place.
"We know that many of our citizens feel powerless due to the presence of the Emergency Manager and the City’s impending bankruptcy ruling," Bing said in a press release. "However, these are the exact reasons why Detroiters need to turn out in record numbers at the polls on Tuesday."
“We will need strong leadership in place once the E.M. leaves, and that could happen even sooner should the bankruptcy judge rule that Emergency Manager Law P.A. 436 is unconstitutional.”
Recent polls, including one by Deadline Detroit, show Mike Duggan with a commanding lead over Benny Napoleon. Duggan has far more campaign contributions, particularly from deep-pocketed corporate types. Napoleon, on his Twitter page has gone on the attack, criticizing Duggan and accusing him of being dishonest. Duggan has not publicly responded to those remarks.
