Brandon earns $800,000 a year in base pay, up 33 percent from last year and nearly $200,000 more than the school's president gets. David Jesse lists the figures in the Detroit Free Press, citing a Friday salary report.
Last year's top two slid in under Brandon this year. Ora Pescovitz, head of the university's health system, is No. 2, with a base salary of $753,806. That's a 2 percent raise over her salary last year.
Douglas Strong, the health system's chief executive, is No. 3. He received a 2-percent increase to $625,770.
President Mary Sue Coleman's salary is $603,357, a 3-percent boost over 2011.
Amounts in Friday's annual report don't include deferred salary, bonuses or outside earning. As Jesse notes, football coach Brady Hoke's $300,000 salary is supplemented by shoe endorsements and broadcast contracts that bring him up to about $1.5 million a year. Basketball coach John Beilein has a base salary of $206,000 and makes about $1.8 million when outside money is included, the newspaper says.
