An assistant principal was arrested Monday at Ecorse High on charges of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old female relative several years ago. She's in her mid-teens now.

Melven Conway was arraigned in Detroit's 36th District Court on charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Conway, suspended with pay, is held on a $75,000/10 percent bond, meaning he can go free for $7,500, Fox 2 reports.

The victim made a police report last spring, years after the alleged assault.

Superintendent Josha Talison released a statement to Fox 2:

"The Ecorse School District has been made aware of the arrest of Assistant Principal Melven Conway. We are going to work collaboratively with all law enforcement agencies involved as this investigation continues.

"As always, the security of our students and staff is our number one priority."
