As the Covid toll continues to climb, several hospital systems in Metro Detroit are concerned people may hesitate to seeking emergency care unrelated to coronavirus because of that contagious disease.

Beaumont, Henry Ford and the Detroit Medical Center urge the public not to wait to seek treatment for chest pain, strokes, seizures and severe trauma, The Oakland Press reports.

Dr. James Ziadeh, emergency medicine director at Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak, said all seven of the system's emergency centers are prepared to treat non-Covid cases.

“We’ve taken extra precautions to ensure our Emergency Centers are disinfected, clean and staffed to assist patients with non-COVID-19 medical emergencies,” he tells Mark Cavitt of the Oakland Press. “Those experiencing chest pains, stroke symptoms or any other medical emergency should not hesitate to call 911, or visit one of our emergency centers."

Dr. Steven Kalkanis, CEO of Henry Ford Health, echoed similar sentiments, telling the publication:

"We want people to not be afraid to come into our emergency rooms. They all have safe portals of entry. We've had (non-COVID-19) patients coming into our emergency centers saying, 'I've had these symptoms for a couple weeks, but now they are unbearable.'"
