The wildly popular Fox TV show "Empire," which just aired its last episode of season one, has a direct connection to Metro Detroit.

Fox 2's Taryn Asher reports that Leah Jeffries, 5, of Metro Detroit, plays little "Lola" in the show. Lola, who loves to play with Barbies, plays the surprise daughter of Jamal Lyon until fans recently learned she was actually the daughter of Lucius Lyon, Ahser reports.

"I play with my friends on TV," Leah tells Fox 2.

Her mother tells Fox 2 Leah was just starting kindergarten when she got her big break. A talent agency submitted her photo to the producers of "Empire," who took to her.

"They love her look and if she could read the lines she would be okay. I said okay and she said we'll let you know within 24 hours or so. Well, we got the call like an hour or two and she said she got it and we were just like oh my god, you know we were just excited. And she said the next thing is that we needed to be in Chicago the very next day and from there everything just started moving fast," said Leah Jeffries, Leah's mom.

Fox 2 reports that the family spent the next three months in Chicago where the show is taped.
