Metro Detroiter Who Slept with Wife's Body Pleads Guilty to Murder

A Hazel Park man who authorities suspect may have slept with his wife's dead body for up to a week has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, The Oakland Press reports.

Jeff Charles Sherwood, 47, pleaded guilty recently in the murder of his wife Susan Louise Klepsch, 64. 

The wife died from blunt force trauma to the head and neck in March 2020 at the Hazel Park home she shared with Sherwood, the publication says in a subscribers-only article.

Acting on a tip, police discovered the body. While at the scene, Sherwood reportedly tried to hang himself in the basement. He eventually told police he murdered his wife after she accused him of cheating.

Sentencing is Feb. 17.
