President Donald Trump showed support last week for people protesting Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's stay-home order by tweeting "LIBERATE MICHIGAN!"

On Wednesday night, Michigan's Michael Moore, appearing on MSNBC, responded to the tweet:

"When Trump tweeted that about 'Liberate Michigan,'... I thought, well actually yeah, wer’re planning to do that on November 3rd, this year. Good idea. We were a state that voted for Trump. A lot of us are very busy trying to make sure that doesn't happen again."

Moore also commented on how hard Michigan has been hit by the coronavirus, saying "Michigan has just had the crap kicked out of it now for a number of decades."

Moore, who is quarantined in his New York residence and also has a Traverse City home, went on to criticize Trump's handling of the virus. "We used to say 'this guy is gonna get us killed.' Actually, it wasn't just a joke, this guy is getting us killed."

"People are not going to forget this at election time... People have lost loved ones. People who are sick right now who are watching this. This will not be forgotten."

"We need the truth. We need total transparency. Don't sugarcoat it for us."
