Republican Michigan attorney general hopeful Matt DePerno, who has the endorsement of ex-President Trump, accuses GOP rival Tom Leonard of violating attorney-client privilege.
Leonard, the former state House speaker, is a partner at Plunkett Cooney, a prominent law firm representing DePerno before the Attorney Grievance Commission.
DePerno, in a letter to the firm obtained by The Detroit News, accuses Leonard of disclosing a commission investigation into DePerno. "This is an egregious violation of the standard and duty of care," Deperno writes.
Leonard and others on Monday rejected DePerno's claims, the paper says. Information released by Leonard apparently had been made public already.
DePerno, a lawyer from Kalamazoo, said he had retained Plunkett Cooney to represent him in multiple Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission investigations. One of the probes involved his handling of litigation over the 2020 election in Antrim County, the letter said.
