Michigan on Sunday added 20 coronavisrus cases to the list that grows daily, including a "young person." The official total is 53.

"The number is growing every day," Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said at a press conference, flanked to the right by Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, chief medical executive for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

"We know there are many people have not been tested and may be sick," she said.

Whitmer declined to give the age of the youngest patient, but she said it underscored the need for school closures.

Meanwhile, an Osborn High School facukty member in Detroit has been diagnosed with Covid and the Detroit Health Department is recommending all students and faculty who may have been in contact with that person to self-quarantine, Fox 2 reports.

On Sunday, Whitmer urged shoppers to stagger shopping trips to let stores restock.

And she said she was disturbed by gatherings of large groups. “This is a moment in Michigan. We are up to the challenge and we’ll do everything to mitigate the challenge,” she said. “Every decision we’ve made has been based on the best science and the best facts.”
