As predicted, Michigan Covid cases are climbing.
The latest: The state reported a total of 4,197 new cases for Thursday and Friday, or 2,098 per day.
Hospitals were treating 999 confirmed and suspected adult Covid patients Friday, including 233 in intensive care.
The new overall count is up from the last report of 1,345 average daily cases reported midweek.
Thirty-seven deaths were recorded over that two-day period, with 13 earlier ones identified from vital records reviews.
State officials forecast a fall surge unless more people aren't vaccinated. The current rates for those over 16 are 73% percent with at least one vaccination and 65% fully protected.
The state lists 929,574 cases since the pandemic reached Michigan in March 2020, including nearly 876,000 who've recovered (94.2%). The death toll is 20,113.
Michigan's numbers are far below those in Florida, which averages about 21,000 new cases per day. That state's hospitals are treating more than 17,000 patients with Covid — including more than 3,550 in intensive care, according to The Washington Post.
