None have actually declared their candidacy for governor in 2018. But it's no secret that they have an interest in that job.
Kathleen Gray of the Detroit Free Press reports from Cleveland:
None of the potential Republican candidates who are attending the convention in Cleveland — Attorney General Bill Schuette, Lt. Gov. Brian Calley or Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof — have declared that they’re running for the state’s chief executive job, yet. But all three are making sure to connect with Michigan’s delegates and guests at the convention.
The political gathering is the perfect spot to recruit volunteers and donors to the 2018 election cycle, even as the focus is on nominating and uniting behind the 2016 Republican nominee for president, New York businessman Donald Trump.
