You would think in the 21st Century that this would not be an issue.

Unfortunately, it is.

Zlati Meyer of the Detroit Free Press reports that Michigan has the seventh-widest gender-based pay gap in the U.S.

That info comes from a new report by the National Partnership for Women & Families.

The report, according to the Freep, says that female full-time workers earn 74 cents for every dollar men make. African-American women in Michigan earn 67 cents on the dollar and Latina women, 54 cents, compared to white, non-Hispanic men.

“It is possible that there are segments of Michigan employers doing well relative to their peers, but when you look at it overall, I’m speechless. It’s hard to view that as anything other than negative just at a time when we’re trying to attract and retain the best and brightest to work in our state,”  Terry Barclay, president and CEO of Inforum, Michigan’s largest and most influential organization for professional women, told the Freep.  -- A.L.
