Covid hasn't vanished, but here's some heartening data.
Michigan has 892 Covid patients, a 13.3-percent decrease from Wednesday’s total of 1,030 patients and an 82 percent drop from the Jan. 10 high of 4,986 patients, The Oakland Press reports.
Michigan’s 7-day average for Covid hospitalizations is 1,084, down from a peak of 4,876 on Jan. 11, which is a 77-percent decrease. Over the past seven days, the average number of Michiganders admitted to the hospital for Covid is 117, down from 176 the prior week.
There's also signs of hope when it comes to hospital staff shortages. As of Wednesday, 40 Michigan hospitals reported critical staff shortages, down from a high of 62 on Jan. 23, but slightly up from a week ago when it was 34.
In a further breakdown of stats, in the past week, Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties saw a 40-percent decrease in Covid hospital admissions over the previous week.
The state’s 7-day average case rate dropped dramatically from a peak of 26,330 cases per day on Jan. 24 to 2,462 cases per day on Feb. 28, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
On Friday, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported a daily average of 921 new Covid cases for two days and and 68 deaths for that stretch.
