Jolly Pumpkin, which has three Southeast Michigan locations, earns a slice of coast-to-coast praise served by Thrillist.
It's among 17 top pizza-baking brewpubs saluted by the website. Honorees, which aren't ranked, include Chicago's Piece Brewery & Pizzeria and pubs in Boulder, Bloomington, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Portland and Raleigh.

Pork Pie selection at Jolly Pumpkin Detroit has bacon, pepperoni, fennel sausage, shaved garlic, tomato sauce, mozzarella, shaved onion and red pepper flakes.
Meredith Heil, the main writer among five contributors, teases our hunger and thirst from the start:
Never was there a more timeless romance than the love shared between a tall pint of cold, bubbly beer and a steaming-hot slice of cheesy, saucy pizza. . . .
Unfortunately, too many ambitious beer-and-pizza purveyors miss the mark when it comes to perfecting this culinary no-brainer. Those that rise above, however, deserve all the recognition they can get.
Jolly Pumpkin was founded in 2004 by Ron Jeffries, who began with a Dexter Brewer and expanded to an Ann Arbor brewpub in September 2009. The third spot opened at 441 W.est Canfield in Midtown Detroit in April 2015.
Thrillist, which posts a photo from the Ann Arbor branch, says in part:
One of the finest breweries in the Great Lakes State also has some of the finest pizzas, which start with a 100-year-old sourdough and a concrete slab and end with locally sourced, farmers market-driven toppings. . . .
There's smoked chicken with smoked mozz and charred sweet peppers to be had on one pie, and another that approximates a baked potato.
