Though he was wounded warrior through the latter part of the season, TIger slugger Miguel Cabrera was still recognized for this greatness in 2013 by the Baseball Writers Association of America who gave him the Most Valuable Player award for the American League.

It was the second year in a row that Cabrera was given the honor, announced Thursday night.

The Detroit Free Press reported that Cabrera won with 23 of 30 first-place votes, again beating Angels’ outfielder Mike Trout.

The award was announced a day after Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer won the Cy Young Award for the American League. - A.L.
