Miguel Cabrera's abdominal muscles were apparently too strong to withstand their own strength. That's why the American League's reigning MVP struggled in September. However, Cabrera likely will be 100% by spring training as he underwent successful surgery this morning to repair damaged core muscles. Rehab is expected to take six-to-eight weeks.
Detroit News: The surgery was performed by Dr. Bill Meyers, a nationally-known specialist in athletic injuries of the kind Cabrera dealt with during a pain-loaded 2013 season. His most difficult weeks included the Tigers’ playoff series when their third baseman, and American League batting champion, was diminished at the plate and on the basepaths.
Despite hitting .278 with just one home run and a .729 OPS in September, Cabrera's season line remained triple crown-like: 44 home runs, 137 RBIs, .348/.442/.636.
