Say what you will about Oakland County Executive Brooks Patterson, but he has this strange way of bringing people together. Take, for example, Detroit's mayor and city council. The relationship between these two branches of local government has been historically acrimonious.
However, in the wake of Patterson's controversial comments about Detroit in The New Yorker, Mayor Mike Duggan and City Council President Brenda Jones have issues a joint statement in which they both agree: Patterson's comments were unacceptable.
“Brooks Patterson’s statements were not what you would expect from a regional partner with a vested interest in a strong and healthy Detroit," Duggan and Jones said in the emailed statement. "We hope he apologizes for this promptly. The Mayor and Council remain focused on our unified efforts to improve the quality of life in Detroit and we are not going to be distracted by negative comments from anyone.”
