Detroit mayoral candidate Mike Duggan received ten speeding tickets in the last five years and has a long history as a traffic scofflaw.

Detroit Free Press: “It’s a problem I have — I schedule too many things in too little time,” Duggan said. “I’m working very hard right now to slow down, but I have no excuse for it.”

The last two were on Jan. 18 in Highland Park (40 m.p.h. in a 30-m.p.h. zone) and then April 8 in Royal Oak (50 in a 45 zone). The rest of the tickets for 10 m.p.h. or less over the limit span metro Detroit and the state, from police in Detroit, Farmington, Redford Township, Dearborn Heights, Oak Park, Howell, St. Johns and Beulah.

Duggan's supporters will likely claim these traffic citations are proof that Duggan has the sense of urgency necessary to quickly turnaround Detroit. Because if there is one thing we've learned during this Sitzkrieg mayoral campaign, there is nothing Mike Duggan can do that doesn't reinforce his backers' belief that he is the kindest, warmest, bravest, most wonderful human being who has ever lived.

Meanwhile master campaigner Benny Napoleon has managed to even Duggan's traffic record into a drawback, using the opportunity to remind voters that, as Wayne County Sheriff, he goes full-on Miss Daisy at taxpayer expense.

Benny Napoleon has a county-provided 2011 GMC Yukon, and on the job is usually driven by a staffer, campaign spokesman Jamaine Dickens said.

Worst. Mayoral Race. Ever.
