A photo of this sign kind of hits you over the head: "Woodward Dream Cruise : Avoiding the Actual Motor City Since 1995."

The photo appeared Monday on the Facebook page of the Detroit Bus Company with the solicitous question:  "Now that we're clear of the madness, what's your opinion on the Woodward Dream Cruise?"

The Dream Cruise, which began in 1995, takes place along 16 miles of Woodward Avenue through eight host communities: Berkley, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge, Pontiac and Royal Oak.

After about an hour, the Facebook posting already had 127 likes, 26 shares and more than three dozen comments.

The reader comments included:

Barbara Ingalls: "For residents, it sucks. Smelly loud obnoxious. Business killer."

Elizabeth Partenski:  "It needs to start in Highland park or mid town and end in Pontiac. I think going all the way down to the water would be just too much congestion and traffic. But it would be good for the business in Detroit along Woodward. Plus Palmer park would be great for an exhibition area."

Jonny LeMieux: "All  the history of Woodward is in Detroit...its time to get over the whole "Detroit is terrible" certain areas yes but the city as whole isnt...too many focus on the negative of Detroit....once it goes thru the city you can count me in...till than its just isnt as genuine to me.

Heather Ormaybeidid: "Clean the city up and people would probably wanna cruise in there nice ass cars in the motor city. No one wants to cruise through the ghetto to get down town."

Daniel Chisnell: " I've been avoiding it like the plague for the last decade. It used to be cool then got too big to where it's just a huge parking lot.

Bruce Durfy: "Build it and they will come. giving some of the national clubs space to spread out and put on a car show the week of would bring people into Detroit."

Susan Henry: "Stop bashing south of 8 Mile. Grow Up and drive down. I live in the hood and wouldn't even consider living north of 8 Mile.

Joe Vargas: "Here's a thought, why don't detroit start its own dream cruise and see who shows up? Lol"
