In pro sports, winning and losing can mean a difference of many millions of dollars in revenue.
The Tigers sold 2,726,048 home game tickets this season, a 6.5-percent decline of 191,161 fans from 2014, Bill Shea reports at Crain's Detroit Business.
With a $29 average ticket price, the Tigers saw at least $5.5 million less in revenue because of the attendance decline.
Ticket dollars are particularly important because of the team's large payroll, Shea notes.
