Here's more boozing tales of Eastern Michigan University president Susan Martin, who was recently told by the university to get her drinking under control or get fired.
Kim Kozlowski of The Detroit News reports that when Martin was arrested in 2005 on suspicion of drunken driving, she told the arresting officer to call the police chief. She also expected to be driven home.
"I don't see how you taking me to jail is benefitting the university. You should just take me home," Martin, who was then a Grand Valley State University vice provost, told the arresting officer, according to the News. A few years later she became the EMU president.

The Detroit News obtained the police report through the Freedom of Information Act. It alleges Martin also locked her keys in the truck while looking for papers, and initially refused to take a breath test before reconsidering and registering a 0.13 and 0.14 blood alcohol content after a university social event.
"Call (GVSU Police Chief) Barb Bergers and tell her you are going to arrest me," Officer Adam Schaller quoted Martin in his report. "Martin also made comments alluding to the fact that she had to be at work in the morning 'to make sure that (my) paycheck gets cut.' It was apparent to me that Martin was not expecting me to take her to jail."
