For a new generation of graffiti vandals in Detroit, nothing is sacred, writes Steve Neavling on Motor City Muckraker.
They are spray-painting freeway signs, billboards, schools, churches, cars, houses, light poles, mailboxes, playground equipment and even trees.
Some propel their paint out of fire extinguishers to create large, loopy letters on the sides of buildings.
Over the past three months, the Motor City Muckraker interviewed graffiti artists, identified some of the most egregious vandalism and sought to track down the worst offenders.
We scoured social media, from Facebook to Instagram, to uncover the people behind the paint. Most are from the suburbs, including a Department of Natural Resources ranger.
Neavling's story includes numerous photos, including some of the taggers themselves.
Note: Deadline Detroit posted a summary of a Detroit News story Tuesday concerning an allegation of an assault by Neavling that is not related to his graffiti expose.
