We should be hearing a lot about blight now that the Detroit Blight Removal Task Force has issued its report.
Steve Neavling of the Motor City Muckraker has published a story focusing on eight of Detroit's most abandoned neighborhoods that have been ravaged by crime, foreclosures, fires and scrappers.
In these neighborhoods, he writes, that more than a third of homes and businesses are abandoned.
One of the neighborhoods is Brightmoor. Neavling reports that the neighborhood in northwest Detroit, which is about four square miles, has 34.2 percent of its buildings unoccupied -- 1,636 in all.
