The musical full of Motown classics hits Detroit later this year for a touring stint at the Fisher Theatre.
"Motown The Musical," a Tony-nominated show about Motown Records, includes dozens of songs and artists re-imagined for Broadway by Berry Gordy, Jr.
Show times aren't announced yet, but dates will run from October 21 to November 16. Performances continue on Broadway while an alternate cast visits Detroit, Chicago, San Francisco and other cities.
The homecoming will be a big deal, according Robin Terry, the Motown Museum's chairman, who spoke with the Detroit Free Press.
The Motown Museum will be closely involved in the show’s local promotion and related activities, said Terry, including “a big, Motown-style red carpet gala” on opening night.
“Everybody is very clear that the rollout in Detroit has to be like no other city,” said Terry. “That’s what we’re tasked with.”
