No criminal charges will be issued in an August assault against a Michigan State University student who said he was attacked after being asked if he was Jewish, the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office announced Thursday.

The Detroit News reports that Stuart Dunnings III said the East Lansing Police Department interviewed more than 50 witnesses to the Aug. 26 attack against Zachary Tennen, 19, of Franklin, according to a news release.

"After reviewing all of the evidence submitted by the Police Department, I have reached the conclusion that no charges should be issued at this time. I believe there is no evidence that any ethnic/religious/racial bias was involved in this incident," Dunnings wrote in a news release.
