Thing are messier at Michigan State University.
In a Tuesday interview with WBBL-FM, MSU Trustee Mitch Lyons confirms that football player Auston Robertson reported to Coach Mark Dantonio the January sexual assault incident on campus that brought criminal charges this week against three players, Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press reports.
“When Auston Robertson came into his office for a regularly weekly meeting, Coach D asked him the regular questions he typically asks him, and then (Robertson) became a little emotional and didn’t even go into details. He alluded to the fact that something happened,” Lyons said.
“And Coach D had a sense that it involved some sort of sexual allegation, and he immediately said, ‘Don’t say anything more.'"
The law firm of Jones Day, hired by MSU for an external investigation of the January assault, issued a report that said an unnamed fourth player told Dantonio of that alleged assault hours after the incident.
Robertson, 19, of Fort Wayne, Ind., was charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct for an alleged sexual assault April 8 in Meridian Township. He was dismissed from the team April 22.
Ingham County Prosecutor Carol Siemon has charged players Josh King, Donnie Corley and Demetric Vannce with sexual assault involving the January incident. All those students are off the team.
